According to reports in The Sun, Arsenal are ready to make a shock summer move for Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

What’s the word, then?

Well, the 19-year-old has returned to Stamford Bridge following a brilliant season on loan with Championship outfit Bristol City, and he is hoping he will be given a chance in the first team during pre-season and next term by manager Antonio Conte.

However, if that isn’t going to be the case then the young attacker will look to leave the club and Gunners manager Arsene Wenger is said to be keen to bring the highly-rated forward to the Emirates.

How good was he at Bristol City?

He was magnificent.

Considering it was his first consistent run of games at a senior level and the fact that the Championship is such a competitive league, to score 23 league goals and 26 in 48 appearances in all competitions is certainly no mean feat and shows the potential he has.

Do Arsenal need him?

They probably do, yes.

Lucas Perez only joined the Gunners from Deportivo La Coruna last summer but looks set to leave after struggling for first team minutes, while there will always be worries over Danny Welbeck’s fitness following a number of injury struggles.

That leaves Olivier Giroud and Alexis Sanchez – if he stays – as Wenger’s options up top, and the French boss is keen to add a younger striker to his options.

Would Chelsea sell him to Arsenal?

Of course, the Blues wouldn’t want to sell the promising forward to one of their direct rivals in the Premier League and on that basis a deal seems unlikely.

However, money talks and if the player isn’t going to get an opportunity at Stamford Bridge he could try and convince the club that a move to Arsenal would be best for him.

What’s the verdict, then?

While Arsenal being interested and Abraham seeking assurances over his playing time all seem quite likely, Chelsea surely wouldn’t be willing to sell the 19-year-old to the Gunners.

Having seen how well Romelu Lukaku has done since he left for Everton and how much it could cost to bring him back, you’d have thought they may have learnt their lesson.
